Hi there, I just had my bloodwork done yesterday and got the results today. It states that my cholesterol is 252 and that my trigs are 168. I have no idea what Trigs mean and I also was not fasting. My TSH came back as 1.966, I have no idea what TSH is and if that is high or low? Is my cholesterol considered high? I do not eat any fried food, I only drink almond and coconut milk and I am a 45 yr old woman.
Hi! Welcome to HCM! Triglycerides are fat present in blood that provide energy to the body. High triglyceride levels have been linked to a greater chance for heart disease. Normal is less than 150 mg/dl or 1.7 millimoles per liter (mmol/L).Yours is slightly high along with cholesterol. To lower them, you can bring about lifestyle changes such as diet and physical activity, triglycerides usually respond well to dietary and lifestyle changes so medications can be avoided for lowering them. Sometimes high triglycerides are a sign of poorly controlled type 2 diabetes, low thyroid hormones or a side effect of medications. However your TSH is normal so nothing to worry about thyroid. Fasting for 9 to 12 hours is required before blood can be drawn for an accurate triglyceride/cholesterol measurement. So next time go after overnight fasting. Hope this helps!Take care!
